In my experience, there has always been two types of people. You have the "Checklist Charlie," always glancing at his sliver watch, briskly walking from place to place, living one goal at a time, always glorified by his success and accomplishments, which don't get me wrong, is a positive, important personality trait to possess, but where does it stop? When he reaches his last breath of life, will the wife, house, career, and fancy car satisfy him with a life well fulfilled? Or was there some key ingredient he was lacking the entire time?
This brings us to the 2nd category of people. These are the ones who live life to the fullest and take pleasure in the simple details, the day-to-day moments that may otherwise be easily dismissed: Every kiss, every laugh, every tear, from the smell of your mother's perfume, to the taste of the salty ocean breeze.
I believe, looking back on life, when your heart is filled with the precious memories of the microscopic details you carried with you and collected for years and years, only then will you accomplish a sense of completeness.
President Gordon B. Hinckley once said, "In all of living, have much fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured." I strive every moment to live my life in just that way, and because of it, my life has become a more exciting adventure than I ever thought imaginable.
I was going through some of my stuff recently and came across this list I made a long time ago. It's so silly, and so random, but I wrote down all the tiny little details in my life that mean so much to me...
1. Writing long checklists, planning, and packing for huge vacations.
2. Taking a hot, hot shower with the window open, and it's so cold around you, you can see your breath.
3. Long car rides with a bunch of friends, laughing, and blasting music.
4. Barely catching a smell of something from your childhood.
5. Crying with the characters in a movie you're watching by yourself.
6. Getting a complement from someone you highly respect.
7. After talking to someone you really like, you walk away and can't stop yourself from smiling (definitely made this list back before I was married. LoL).
8. Squealing when you get a text message with really good news.
9. Laying on the grass and spotting a shooting star next to someone you love.
10. Getting the chills when the perfect music chord is echoing in your ears.
11. Finding out someone was talking and asking about you to your close friend (Bah ha ha, oh to be single).
12. Laughing so hard your stomach hurts uncontrollably, but you keep laughing anyways.
13. Having a deep, deep conversation with someone.
14. Realizing a huge puzzle piece to a situation you couldn't figure out.
15. Bear hugs after reuniting with someone you haven't seen forever.
16. Resting your head on the most comfortable pillow after a long unbelievably worn out day, and just closing your eyes.
17. Watching old couples hold hands while walking together.
18. Wearing the perfect outfit, and your hair and makeup look great! ... Just feeling pretty.
19. Taking a bath in the dark.
20. Seeing a deer or squirrel or something, and not telling anyone around you, and just observing it by yourself.
21. Having a good, hard cry.
22. Listening to a river flowing close by.
23. Watching your parents cry when they're proud of you.
24. Going on a hard run in the pouring rain.
25. Mail... from an actual MAILBOX!
26. When someone plays with your hair.
27. Silently laughing with one other person in the room and no one else around you gets the joke.
and one I really want to add....
28. Lying on Mitchell's chest. :) Love it so much!!!
