DaTe NiGhT = FaVoRiTe NiGhT

We love date nights!  The only thing we love more than date nights.... SUPER CHEAP date nights!  We decided to do something a little bit out of the ordinary and spend the evening in St. Augustine.  It wasn't until after we moved here that we realized we only lived a half an hour away from the oldest town in the United States!
Lately, we've noticed a pattern with old towns and chilling ghost stories.  In Gettysburg, there were signs and flyers plastered all over town advertising ghost tours at night on the battlefields!  It would totally make sense that St. Augustine, with it's history, could also be haunted!

I love being scared.  I can still picture tightly clutching Heather Jackson's sleeve as we watched THE RING for the first time in the cold, dark theater when we were younger.  "NOOOO!  SHE'S CRAWLING OUT OF THE TV!!!!  RUN AWAAAAAY!"  It was absolutely fantastic!  I remember reading an article about people who watch scary movies because of their addiction to the adrenaline rush that accompanies it.  The feeling of your stomach sinking and a shiver running up your spine from fear is just as enjoyable as riding a lightning speed roller coaster.

Anyone who has never done this before I highly, highly recommend it!  We had so much fun!  We didn't want to spend $30 on a ghost tour, so we found a phone app that gives you a self-guided tour.  Brilliant, right?!? We would follow our GPS map, and listen to the narrator's ghost stories and spooky background music as we were lead around the town and shown houses and buildings with reported ghost sightings.  It was so perfect.  We just looked like an ordinary couple holding hands and listening to music.

We would be told to stand by a specific cemetery gate and look for tombstones.  The narrator would then surprise us and casually let us know,
"Oh, by the way... So many people in town caught yellow fever and died that there wasn't enough room inside the graveyard to bury them all.  So the people dug a huge pit and piled them right here.  So you're literally standing on about a thousand dead bodies right now.  K, bye!"
"WHAT THE?!?" (Shuffle backwards and trip over a bajillion bushes to get as far away from that spot as possible)

After the tour, we "Sealed The Deal" (or as my dad likes to put it... "S.T.D.!" ... this is the part where everyone usually stares at him uncomfortably) with a waffle cone full of delicious ice cream.  Date nights pretty much don't count unless ice cream is present.

Totally worth every cent!! Go if you live in Jacksonville!  Find the closest ghost town and see if they have an app for it if you don't!  Seriously.  Best date night ever!
